IPv6 in the Internet resources of italian Public Administration at a glance

Pubblica Amministrazione - valutazione rischi e beneficiItalian Public Administration and IPv6: poor results. “I call on Member States to make sure that public authorities and industry have IPv6 widely sown up by 2010″ said Viviane Reding in 2008. In 2011 European Commission made Europa website accessible for IPv6 users because “IPv6 is a key action under the Digital Agenda for Europe”. IPv6 Deployment Aggregated Status, available on Eric Vyncke website https://www.vyncke.org/ipv6status/ , shows that currently Italy is not in the top-50 countries in the world.

Now, let’s move to our findings: our database counts 8405 unique Public Administrations domain names (national, regional, local). Here is what we found: 22 domain names have at least one AAAA dns record set in their authoritative nameserver’s zone file. That’s a 0.26% deployment, after all.

Look at who they are:

Public Administration’s IPv6 deployment status could seem in late (well, it is in late actually), anyway italian Internet service providers perform worse: according to Google’s Per-Country IPv6 statistics Italy gains a 0.02%.
